Taylor Swift is sending support to those impacted by Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene. On Wednesday, Oct. 9, as Hurricane Milton approached landfall in Florida, Feeding America announced in a statement that the global superstar donated $5 million to relief efforts. “We’re incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift for her generous $5 million donation to Hurricanes Helene and Milton relief efforts,” the post signed by Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot began, adding, “This contribution will help communities rebuild and recover, providing essential food, clean water, and supplies to people affected by these devastating storms. Together, we can make a real impact in supporting families as they navigate the challenges ahead. Thank you, Taylor, for standing with us in the movement to end hunger and for helping communities in need.”

The trouble is that as soon as they use all this money to rebuild, another hurricane will come along and destroy the rebuild. It’s a never-ending recycling bandaid, because the root causes are not being addressed. For now, it would make a lot more sense for people to just move somewhere else.
