Sorry, but you have a serious lack of knowledge of that century ‘s history!!!
These isn’t just an opinion, but a historical & scientific fact !
A few years before of the ‘Invincible Armada”, and with a real setup, they were able to get the orphan teenage king of Portugal (number one of Spanish oponents!) to be captured and kill during a North Africa attack (on the name of religion); this, and due to the fact that there was no direct descendant to the Portuguese Crow, Spanish claim the right to access to the thrown by the different marriages.
And they decided to attack the kingdom of Portugal and claiming the Crown!
To make a long story short, once they had the control of the Portuguese Royale Navy (the biggest at the time), they use those heavy ships to complete the Armada, with the intention of attacking England (70 to 75% of the ships were Portuguese); however, they used the ships, but not the Portuguese sailors! Which was the biggest mistakes! The Spanish didn’t have the knowledge of the use of this weapons! Wich finished tragically!
It’s true that the Royale Navy did put in a serious fight, along with innovations!
That (and i insist for you to look for accurate information) was what bought the biggest Armada at the time to a disastrous conclusion!
It hurts those who do have accurate and scientific proof, to see these fake history!
Please, make sure that you search for the right information from the appropriate sources!
Thank you!
And…shame on those who come up with “fake news” (even if… I’m certain that most of them don’t even know the entire truth!!!!!!!
The Spanish took the crown of Portugal in 1580 when Philip II of Spain was crowned King Philip I of Portugal. This began a personal union between the two countries, known as the Iberian Union, that lasted until 1640.
The Iberian Union was the result of a succession crisis after the deaths of King Sebastian of Portugal and his great-uncle Henry of Portugal. Philip II of Spain defeated the other claimant to the throne, Dom António, Prior of Crato, in the Battle of Alcântara in 1580.
The Iberian Union was an unpopular period for Portugal, and the Portuguese Empire declined during this time. In 1640, Portugal reestablished its independence with the Portuguese Restoration War and the Portuguese dynasty under the Bragança.
