In this episode of Retromade, I’m breaking the rules by going back beyond the 80s a bit to 1979 as well as flying solo to commemorate Patrick Swayze’s first EVER movie role – a campy roller-disco musical comedy.
Skatetown U.S.A. captured something special with its look, feel, & impossible to ignore soundtrack. I think you owe it to yourself to watch it if you haven’t seen it.
Apologies for the out of sync video/audio after about 10 minutes – since I was solo, I tried to save time in editing but it backfired…

Don’t forget Comet and Icons & Heroes (H&I) on digital antenna. Tubi’s 80s and 90s cult film library is uh-may-zing!
Yessss, Comet! How is it that I’m not familiar with H&I though? I’ll get on that ASAP 😉 And great point about Tubi’s extensive catalog of nostalgic fun! Thanks for listening.
Never heard of this movie. But I remember ‘North & South’, it was popular on German TV, too.
I hadn’t either before I ready Patrick’s book. His very first movie role – he’s really good in it too! Plus a quite famous cast.
Thanks for listening and so glad you’re enjoying the “time capsule” portion of the show! I haven’t seen Xanadu either.
Dad watched MASH all the time! I wasn’t a fan of it, though but most likely didn’t really get into it.
For some reason, I don’t recall that. I DO remember the beginning of the theme song, though 😉 Thanks for watching!
How have I never heard of this movie?? Seems like I wouldve seen this at some point.
Google says it grossed 214 million so that’s not unknown
It’s not readily available to stream…I think I found it on YouTube. It’s DEF worth a watch – wild, crazy, silly, but Patrick is phenomenal as always!
