Unbeaten top prospect Michel Rivera (18-0, 12 KOs) defeated veteran contender Fidel Maldonado Jr. (27-5-1, 20 KOs) by technical knockout in a lightweight co-main event attraction. Representing Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Rivera scored a knockdown of the Albuquerque, New Mexico native Maldonado Jr. in the 10th round. Maldonado Jr. got up and continued, but Rivera quickly overwhelmed him with a barrage of punches and the referee intervened to stop the bout at the 1:40 mark of the final frame.
“I feel very good,” said Rivera. “They matched me against a boxer with a lot of experience. So, I feel happy with my performance.
“I was ready to fight all the rounds, not just looking for the knockout,” added Rivera. “My corner was telling me wait, relax, take your time because he’s an intelligent boxer. I did what they were telling me and I got him out of there in the last round.”

Maldonado fought well
For boxers, these commentators sucked. Easy to say to put combinations together. But, Maldonado was constantly circling and pivoting. Not an easy target.
Agreed.
Maldonado Jr was getting his head off the line as well.
Good crossroads fight for Rivera.
Fidel Maldonado look small and he didn’t have strength to compete.? He needs to find another trainer for he could get more better? His dad took him far as he could take him.? before it’s to late. Get stronger fidel
I think it’s already way too late for Fidel, even though he is still only about 31 I think. He never seemed to have the stamina and chin to stay focused and not give in under big pressure, everytime he stepped up. I remember when he was a youth champion on Azteca and he was supposed to be the next big think and some underdog journeyman sparked him out early. And then the interviewer asked him questions in Spanish post fight and he looked at her like, “huh?” Comical boxing moment but I always rooted for him. Was excited when he knocked down Imam, that was the peak of The Atrisco Kid’s career. What does Atrisco mean anyway, always wanted to know, lol. I do also wonder if somehow a certain trainer could have pulled more out of him.
