Alex Wellerstein joins WIRED to answer the internet’s burning questions about nuclear science. Which nations have nuclear bombs? Who decides who gets to have nuclear warheads and who doesn’t? Why were Hiroshima and Nagasaki targeted at the end of World War II? What happens to someone’s body in an atomic bomb explosion? How does radiation work? Answers to these questions and plenty more await on Nuclear Science Support.

IF DONALD TRUMP WAS PRESADENT HE WOULD NAGOTIATE A GREAT DEAL WITH IRAN AND IT WOULD B PEACE
“They returned them” – and if you believe that, may I interest you in this bridge that I happen to have for sale?
Please don’t pronounce it as AYE-ran. It sounds as if you have just thawed out after the Ice Age and re-entered human civilization. Correctly it’s pronounced EE-raan.
Imagine aliens looking at us wondering why we have weapons aimed at ourselves
The goal of the weapon was to impress the Russians, whilst committing the gravest warcrime ever.
They don’t talk about how 90% of the Japanese people were basically starving themselves to death for the sake of honor when the bombs were dropped. If they hadn’t dropped them, the Japanese would have starved to death while dying and killing more allied troops than had to die. I’m glad they dropped the bombs, but I’m even happier it made the Japanese stop and give up.
Crazy to think that there’s probably like some beautiful coral reef with all sorts of marine life living around it and at its core is a nuclear bomb😂
To think Iran WASN’T moving toward a nuclear weapon under the Deal is just insanely naive.
Ooo he has the book
29:42 Play this 25 sec clip (until 30:07) for school children during a nuclear-armed cold war. Let them hear the truth lol
we are the only species who can destroy a planet and then reboot it with nuclear power xDD thats super awesome.
Sheesh… right now the world has two of the loosest cannons there has ever been with Putin and Trump in charge of the vast majority of the worlds Nuclear weapons… juts think of that… how f’n scary is that…!
Hiroshima was also a major naval base – one of the last largely intact bases in Japan. And would have served as one of the main logistics hubs supporting the defense of Kyushu had the Allies invaded. It was a genuine military target.
If you’re one of the folks scrolling in YouTube you’re unfortunately not rich enough to even be the welcome mat of the nuclear shelter.
Top 10 least likely nations to be hit by hydrogen bombs. I don’t want a single descendant to die for their country.
It should be law that any nation that wants independance should automatically be supported by all the powers of the world. No people that want independance should face the military of its oppressor. Every people that want independance no matter right or wrong should have the full support of the United Nations. Its too late in the game to have oppressors. We all know they are wrong at this point.
The idea that everybody can have a weapon makes sociaty safer😂 Imagen every country having nucliar weapons and they start the equivalent of a scoolshooting. Great idea, yeah… And nuclear ” safe” countries, does that exist? Looking at some of the current leaders???
It turns out it is expensive but not technically very difficult anymore to create nukes, and another dozen nations could have them in less than a year if they so desired. They do not so desire.
Love this series.
