Google’s Nest Doorbell has been one of the most popular smart models available. I picked up the 2nd Gen model to see what’s changed and if its gotten better.

  1. Thanks for a great review! Seeing both in action side by side helped me decide. In our last house I had the original wired Nest Hello doorbell and we were really happy with it. Your video helped solidify that we prefer to buy the older wider view one to the new model with a lesser camera in it.

  2. Gen 2 is definitely better infrared at night. Much better than the hello also can see more of the steps etc with the gen 2.

  3. If you have two doorbells can use nest.? When I Connect the old doorbell wires to the nest my doorbell just keeps ringing

  4. First gen lasted 4 years for me did its job just upgraded to the ring pro 2 I wish the aspect ratio would have improved on the nest and the video quality would have increased not gone done.

  5. My gen 2 wired failed after about 1 year 9 months. Stopped working in the colder temps. Gen 1 lasted about 1.5 years too. Won’t purchase a google doorbell again.

    1. Interesting, thanks for sharing. We have some cold weather coming here in the next few days with highs not above 0 Fahrenheit so will be interesting to see how it holds up. So far it’s been good.

    2. @aboveaveragejoereviews Will be interested to see how it holds up. As I mentioned, this was the second winter with the device and it seems to have failed. Google won’t replace but said I could buy another with a $25 discount. So generous. BTW I used it with a chime which may also impact what I am told, an internal battery similar to the wired gen 1 battery.

  6. AMAZON provides “Frequently returned item” on their WEB site for this door bell. My first GEN NEST Door Bell is experiencing door bell ringing issues. Changed the transformer problem still exists. My 1st GEN Nest Door bell is over 5 years old and maybe its just not made to last. My NEST Smoke/Fire detectors have been working great for the past 5 years.
