The murder capital of the world! No clean water. No trash pickup. Terrible infrastructure. What is happening?

Jackson, Mississippi was my last stop on my deep south road trip. I’m kinda glad it was the last stop. If I had started here, it would have been a really bummer way to begin.

The Republican state government won’t appropriate sufficient funds for Jackson. Not even to upgrade their water and sewerage system. And, the city doesn’t have much of a tax base. The White people send their kids to segregated private academies abandoning the public schools.

Would it help if a couple of these smaller weaker states joined together, and the US had less states? Say Mississippi and Alabama or whatever. Just curious as an outsider.
