I’ve had to go through this, with my mom, while working at a startup. Happened that both my mom and step-dad ended up dying. I didn’t have a vacation for over 2 years. I asked for ONE day off, to plan the joint funeral, and they did not give it to me.
I have not worked for a corporation or anyone else since. Starving? Sure. But I can’t go into an office that doesn’t give me a chance to be human – and I’d rather be a dead human than a live slave.
Working in the game industry and I totally understand you and feel the same way sometimes. I hear life calling out to cut off everything and settle down in a remote place and live differently.
