Public health has a reputation for being cold, sterile, inaccessible to marginalized communities, and boring for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be, argues Public Health Advocate Julissa Soto. By turning vaccine clinics into vaccine parties, her team vaccinated 30,000+ people for COVID-19. Since 2020, they’ve replicated this strategy to increase vaccine rates across Colorado. As it turns out, the missing ingredient in public health – was fun!
Julissa Soto’s innovative public health interventions have led to the vaccination of more than 30,000 Latino adults, youth, and children and the distribution of more than 130,000 home COVID-19 tests and 90,000 surgical masks. In 2021, she earned one of Colorado’s most prestigious honors when Governor Jared Polis proclaimed September 20, 2021, “Julissa Soto Day.” She serves on the Health Equity Commission for the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Suicide Prevention Commission for Colorado. The documentary “Mexicanos Exitosos” chronicles her story of triumph after coming to the U.S. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Propaganda central. Scam central. Only those who are not trustworthy demand trust and work so hard to build it.
Bye bye Ted X, UNSUBSCRIBED this one is too far. Especially with what has happened. Sick.
Maybe we should be having the conversation on whether the people that throw these types of parties should be held accountable for any adverse events that could happen.
