How to Solve a Rubik’s Cube | WIRED

WIRED’s Robbie Gonzalez learned to solve a Rubik’s cube from Tyson Mao, one of the co-founders of the World Cube Association. In two weeks, Robbie got his solve time down from 45 minutes with Tyson, to 20 minutes on his own, to under a minute on average. Learn his 8-step method here.

STEP-BY-STEP:
00:00 (Introduction)
03:06: Step 1: Make the Daisy
04:47: Step 2: Create the White Cross
06:32; (How to Hold the Cube)
08:10; Step 3: Solve the Bottom Layer
12:20; Step 4: Solve the Second Layer

    1. I’ve been cubing for a few years, this video proves that cubing has grown in popularity like crazy in the past few years thank you

    2. Follow j perm’s tutorial for the last layer (yellow face) it’s way easier and you won’t have to learn so many algorithms

  2. I accidentally solved it on step 7 😂
Had a yellow top, and green solved, did step 7 two times and solved it. 🎉

  3. 20:28 – is basically L’ U R U’ L U2 R’ U R U2 R’
23:29 alternate algorithm – R U’ R U R U R U’ R’ U’ R2 [orange on green cluster will move to red on orange cluster; red on orange cluster will move to green on red cluster; green on red cluster will move to orange on green cluster]

  4. I was writing steps down feeling good and then he said the word “algorithm”…. Now my dog has a new favorite chew toy.

  5. Solved the bottom layer but the first layer is still unsolved and I have no idea how to correct it other than start form scratch lol

  6. Can’t remember algorithms so i play this video every time when i reach that stage of solving cube. Thanks for teaching me how to solve this cubic nightmare

  7. I solved it. Thanks. Your video was clear, concise, and easy to follow. Remembering all those algorisms are gonna be a rough time, but I’m sure it will help to exercise my brain.

  8. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great beginners method and helped me learn to solve. This is the basic method which does mean there are better methods like CFOP but for beginners, this is great. I recommend this method for beginners.

  9. 1. Make the daisy.
    2. Create the white cross.
    3. Solve the first (bottom) layer.
    4. Solve the second (middle) layer. ***Hint – Non-Yellow Edge Pieces
    5. Create the yellow cross (F U R U’ R’ F’)
    6. Solve the yellow face (R U R’ U R U2 R’) ***Hint – Top Right Yellow Corner in Left Hand ***Hint – Yellow fish pointing lower left of U
    7. Solve the corners (L’ U R U’ L U R’ R U R’ U R U2 R’)
    8. Solve the edges
    Clockwise (F2 U R’ L F2 L’ R U F2)
    Counter-Clockwise (F2 U’ R’ L F2 L’ R U’ F2)
