Ring reached out and asked if I could show how to install the Ring Wired Doorbell Pro and I figured it’d be a great chance to see how easy it really is. The setup is super simple, and Ring includes almost everything you need to get it done. You’ll just need a couple of basic tools.
Whether you’re upgrading your existing doorbell or installing one for the first time, this video walks you through the full process step-by-step.
If you have any questions that I didn’t cover, feel free to let me know in the comments. I’m happy to help!

What if I forgot to install the power kit inside? 🫣 Would that cause my doorbell to chime sometimes when the doorbell isn’t actually setting it off?
good question! it’s a pretty crucial part to your doorbell functioning properly. can you turn your power off and install it really quick? i would say you should, if you want my opinion.
I have it installed and it works. Thank you. Now my ding-dong chime doesn’t work.
Bummer. That happened to my friend, as well. You can try swapping the wires in your existing chime to see if that makes it work, but if not, you can do what my friend did and buy the chime from Ring. You can plug it in wherever you want and it has a bunch of chime sounds that will definitely connect to your new doorbell.
@brewcitybuilds I only got a transformer and no pro power kit but my current doorbell is hardwired so won’t it just work if I wire it up without using the transformer or pro power? I don’t understand why I need extra install when current one chimes?
if your doorbell chimes, you probably already have a transformer, but it might not give steady power for the ring. the pro power kit just helps regulate it so the ring stays on, doesn’t overheat, and your chime works right. it’s more for long-term reliability than just getting it to turn on. does that make sense?
Ring has told me that there is a list of compatible mechanical or digital doorbell chimes that work with the Wired Doorbell pro. Apparently you have to have one that supports 16V, not 8V. I was hoping that you would address that, but alas you didn’t. Not sure why some old doorbells have to be replaced before the Ring Doorbell pro will work with them.
sorry i wasn’t able to help. i’ve had a couple people tell me that about the chime. i do know that ring makes one that is compatible and you can plug it in anywhere, but otherwise i dunno what the answer is.
Do I just attach the ring power kit wires to the existing screws in the chime box (leaving the original wires attached too)?
that’s what i did, but it may depend on which doorbell model you’re installing. the power kit i installed in the chime had prongs on the end so i just loosened the screws and slid the wires under the corresponding “front” and “trans” screws with the existing wires still in place and then retightened them to make sure there was a snug connection. i did all this while the power was shut off. just want to make sure that’s said. does that make sense?
