Why I cannot parallel connect the existing doorbell button to the new camera?
Probably not enough power to power both? But I’m not sure, I never tried it.
It would probably work, but a doorbell is pretty much a just a contact so you’d be shorting the wires every time you hit the old doorbell and cutting power to the unit. I’d imaging every time you hit the doorbell the camera would reboot then if they were in parallel.
If you’re wired you don’t need the batteries. Read the instructions.
I didn’t know this. Will need to try it without battery
@Daddicatedyou still need the battery
My instructions say the batteries are still required
But why though if it’s wired into the house shouldn’t it be drawing power ?
@scottferrell8423 Because the wiring isn’t for power but to complete the circuit to the chime box. Your sending power from the actual camera to the chime box through that circuit.
Per Blink website instructions concerning the use of the batteries in the video doorbell (10/3/2025), you were correct to also use the batteries … “Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) requires three Energizer AA 1.5-volt lithium non-rechargeable batteries for both wired and wireless installations. To learn more, visit Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) Set Up Guide.”
Mount?!!!
What do you mean?
So do you still need to put the batteries even if its wired already?
Yes
I did.
No – that is why it is hard wired – it runs off electric – This is the worst installation video out. He didn’t even check the level of the doorbell fitting. It does not need a battery only if you set up before installation
@Penfoldgolfer That’s what I was thinking, why do you need batteries. The only reason I came to watch a wired video to confirm batteries were not needed. Put the batteries in and during a power outage your doorbell may still ring and it doesn’t short anything, that’s what I plan to do.
So what wire goes were on the door bell negative or positive? How do you know
It doesn’t matter. It can go either way.
30 days free then pay subscription, not to much per moth $3.99 for minimum . Things they dont mention.
If you do not have a subscription, does not the app or the camera work?
What size drill bits?
