Earlier this summer, few Democrats could have identified Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota.
But, in a matter of weeks, Mr. Walz has garnered an enthusiastic following in his party, particularly among the liberals who cheer on his progressive policies. On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris named him as her running mate.
Ernesto Londoño, who reports for The Times from Minnesota, walks us through Mr. Walz’s career, politics and sudden stardom.
Guest: Ernesto Londoño (https://www.nytimes.com/by/ernesto-londono) , a reporter for The Times based in Minnesota, covering news in the Midwest.

I just graduated from High school in Minnesota, we love him here. Seeing him perform over the last couple of days, I can imagine him fitting in with my social studies teachers. Also, I’d just like to mention the juxtaposition between Walz as a football coach & advisor for the GSA makes no sense for me. In a modern high school these things are not necessarily in conflict.
He actually did call in the national guard fairly quickly. You should have mentioned that a lot of actual liberals were really upset about how people were treated in the the George Floyed riots/protests. There were many peacful people being hit with rubber bullets. So that time was a very hard to navigate time. I found this discussion to be a little off-base. I am not sure if enough thought and research was done on this discussion. Perhaps a little more analysis, study, and research talking to liberals, moderates, and conservatives in the state is needed prior to putting this out there. This feels a little sloppy in my personal opinion.
Tim Walz and the democrats put tampons in the boys’ locker room. Girls get periods; boys never get periods. Children are either girls or boys.
Context: The fire at the precinct was started by a Trump-supporting, right-wing instigator.
Walz hosted Imam Asad Zaman of the Muslim American Society (MAS) of Minnesota on at least five occasions
