Etiquette expert William Hanson joins WIRED to answer the internet’s burning questions about proper manners and polite behavior. Why is “no elbows on the table” a rule? Is there a proper way to stir tea? Or cut a piece of cheese from a charcuterie board? Who decides what proper table etiquette is? Why should we even care about etiquette in the first place? Etiquette expert William Hanson answers these questions and many more on Etiquette Support.

I eat my peas with honey, I’ve done it all my life. It makes them taste quite funny, but it keeps them on the knife! 🤷♀️😀
Instant click and watch. My grand mother used to scold me and the sibs for elbows on tables
This is wonderful! I was not taught proper etiquette until I took an etiquette class at University in the US. I want to teach my children etiquette so they are not uncomfortable in a formal setting. I appreciate the refresher.
Thank you for the advice, bleached David Cameron.
I love having my disregard for such things pointed out. It informs me when I’m dealing with a lack of intellect that would bore me to death.
zarathustra disagrees.
He’s the great example
BRO I SAW HIM ON INSTA AND THOUGHT HE WAS SATIRE, IS HE NOT??
The current world needs more people like him.
My first thought clicking into this video was “he looks like a blond Mycroft” 😅
Shovelling peas with an upturned fork! Oh Bill – that is plain vulgar. Your mother would be disappointed.
How you melons???😍😋 WATERmeloms!
Strawberries?
He looks like a thumb.
“Nobody ‘s got a mouth that big” …. dude youll be surprised
Who the f eats peas with fork, you talk so much and haven’t heard of spoon ????Such a senseless etiquette
People don’t know comment ettiquetes.
Why is the f and other crass curse words bandied about like the word ‘the’? It is not a word to be used in a general conversation as it is incredibly offensive to people. Especially in a program on proper etiquette.
Doesn’t apply. I’ve met the Queen.
Do note that table etiquette was not designed to provide convenience to cherish your food, but to show off your high status where acts of haste and scooping (as with a spoon) is considered to be peasant-like and undignified.
