This is a recording of a live performance by The Fall in New York in June 1981, included on the “Perverted By Language Bis” video, released on Cherry Red. An illuminating insight into Mark E. Smith, we see him in the pub, at the football ground and jiving at the Haçienda. The film features both interviews with Mark and promo videos for many of the bands genre bending singles from the early part of their career, including Indie Chart top five singles “Totally Wired”, “The Man Whose Head Expanded” and “Kicker Conspiracy”.

  1. It’s strange . . . but mark e smith always reminds me of Allan Clarke – the ex-Walsall, Fulham, Leicester City and Leeds United player – and didn’t he play for or manage Barnsley, too ? That’s right, that’s right, that’s right . . . he scored the winning goal in the 1972 Centenary FA Cup Final versus Arsenal. He played alongside Mick Jones. Or was that Joe Strummer ? I’m totally biased !!

  2. The Fall – Totally Wired (Live in New York, June 1981) 18.2.25 0459am i hope he gets a kick in the guy who copied all my vhs. i mean if he;s got dvd copies of this perverted by language collection then well… you could sue – the fall, that is – make yerself some cash… still, like the dog off loaders and their excrement, you’d be left out of pocket for some reason… consider yerself left alone. adios.

  3. i must have heard it a hundred times by now, but the little bass part at 1:20 (and elsewhere) still thrills me every time

  4. I like how Mark is moving his right hand and clicking his finger and thumb , apparently he thought that the song was really catchy and could’ve even been a hit record !
It is a hit record , but back then in England the Top 40 was considered a hit record !
