Stanford Computer Scientist Answers Coding Questions From Twitter | Tech Support | WIRED

Chris Piech, professor of computer science at Stanford University, answers the internet’s burning questions about coding. Do you need to know math to be good at coding? How many computer languages are there? Are programming and coding the same thing? How do you code A.I.? What is the meaning of the “404” error? Chris answers all these questions and much more!

  1. “That’s the cool thing about computer science; we are always building on top of each other’s ideas.” Especially when you find zero-day errors years after they propagated into the standard library. 😉

  2. 13:16 Actually there’s a funny story on why programming got into math
The base theory for computing is based mostly in set theory which is a math field. So things like grammars, graphs, the NP problem are all set theory subjects.

  3. This is a good introduction to someone that’s interested in coding and computer programming. I say this as someone that’s recently interested in coding and computer programming. Finally got that video to show to friends and fam that are interested for some of the basic questions my brain is not organized to answer.

  4. I’m in highschool and learning with Karel right now!!! It’s really fun but lowkey makes me mad sometimes😅

  5. Does anyone else hate this modern tendency to use the word “compute” so incorrectly…? ..using it to describe the total computing power of a entity instead of the result of an equation.

  6. I’m just trying to figure out what happens when I divide a negative hahah. Let alone fundamental opposition like exponents and logarithms… I have calculus and physics next semester 😅

Chaos, all good. I thrive in chaos and philosophy. Order? Ughh I want to understand it and find it fascinating. 😅
