It’s a combination of both. And most drivers don’t have the talent to give feedback that can be better or more helpful than the data. Only a handful of drivers in the history of F1 have had that talent.

It must be difficult because you have moments like lando argueing with his pit crew about whether it’s raining and then you also have moment like when traction control was first invented, the driver testing it, cannot remember who it was for the life of me, said it was slowing him down despite going several seconds quicker.
