  1. Once Jon’s Green Hill Zone started to play as I was seeing the movie in the theater I immediately had to know who it was.

    1. Yeah…. sometimes. I think it’s still important to ground some of our vocabulary into reality or at least connection. “Wavelength” “Frequency” “Energy” are all vague terms that are attractive, yet uninformative. I think one can be poetic without resorting to this sensationalism.

  2. 0:21 All keys are equal, and have no inherent difference in character. That is subjectively injected (which is totally fine btw). But we shouldn’t pretend they are inherently something they are not.

  3. Piano Repertoire? For a beginner, try not to tie yourself down in the beginning and explore many genres that the instrument had manifested. A good beginner repertoire gives you exposure, so you can make a better decision later on what you want to do with your instrument.

  4. The guy has rubber fingers! He doesn’t just play the keys, His hands dance all over the keyboard! how can we ever get that good? He’s a icon to music!

  5. I totally agree with the idea that mastery of piano is an infinite concept. I’m definitely no Jon Batiste, but I have been playing piano for many decades, and the more I learn about the instrument, the more I realize that I will never run out of things to learn. I play other instruments, but nothing else provides the biomechanical richness of piano; it is in us, and we speak through it. Jon Batiste speaks many languages, really well!!
