We purchased a new generation 2 Ring doorbell that can be hard wired to existing mechanical doorbell for power. It does have rechargeable battery but we wanted to have it ring the old mechanical door bell inside our home instead of purchasing a ring chime. I found a YouTube video from “simple living” and he showed it is possible by going into settings on the app. Ours didn’t come with jumper wire but that’s okay because you don’t need it. My husband wired the ring according to instructions on app and once we selected mechanical doorbell to chime it worked. It will make the existing mechanical door bell work when someone presses the Ring doorbell outside. all you need to use is the app to set it up.
Getting Wired Ring Doorbell to work with our existing mechanical doorbell
I don’t see in home chimes on mine?
Me neither!!
That feature isn’t in my settings
Same
Might be a different version for think mine is 2.0
You helped me tremendously. I spent 45 minutes watching videos and almost took my doorbell apart to check the voltage and wiring. Watched your video and the doorbell was working in less than two minutes.
So glad it helped! 😊
Thank you
You’re welcome 😉
Mine doesn’t have that option
Might be a different version
Thank you so much for his video- it was a little different with the newest version, but was easy to follow. My doorbell is working now.
So glad I could help! 😊
Angel what did you do to get the new version to work?
You’re welcome
Girl, you helped me out tremendously. Thank you for your instruction. You just got right to the point no chitchat. I appreciate you thank you.
So glad I could help! ❤
Do you have to install the jumper cables?
No we didn’t have to.
Can you tell me what version exactly you have, I need to order the same one so it works with my original mechanical chime
I have the 2nd generation released in 2020 ring doorbell
So I’m wondering if all of us who don’t see the In home chimes settings probably need to update our apps.
Just a thought.
3.90.1 version on my Ring app. Is yours different?
Mine is 2nd generation 5.90.1
Thank you so much for this! It worked!
You’re welcome ☺️
i can’t find in home chime settings on my app
Might be a different version.
Bless you. I wasted an hour fooling with the wiring. Your video fixed it instantly!
Mine doesn’t even have that option 😮they must’ve removed it
Ours is an older version so they probably did change it so you have to buy their chime.
@teresadesignyes I noticed that. The on at my house does have that option but the one at the other house doesn’t 🤷🏼♂️gonna have to buy the chime box. $34 on Amazon, not bad. 😂
THANK YOU!!!!
This is great. Latest Ring Doorbell + Fully updated App. Three options to select for the doorbell type. Mine – which I believe is pretty old worked on “Digital Type 2”. Many thanks!!!
You’re welcome glad I could help.
OMG! It took me seven months to get my ring doorbell installed because I was afraid of the wires. Then I talked to my dad. He said you don’t have to worry about it just install it. You don’t have to shut anything off. So I ended up installing it today. Everything works fine, but I ring the doorbell and I don’t hear it inside my house. I only hear on my phone so now I’m like oh my God now I have to deal with the wires again, but thanks to Google recommending your video you have helped me tremendously. I did not have to fool around with the wires again. I just changed the settings like you said and it works perfectly. Thank you so much.❤❤❤🎉🎉
Oh wow so glad the video helped you out.
So glad the video helped you out!
You saved my mentals. I cant thank you enough!!!
Which model do you have? I’m not shown that option in my settings and it does say in the Help section it does not work for Ring Wired.
