Former FBI Agent Breaks Down Interrogation Techniques | WIRED

Former FBI agent and body language expert Joe Navarro breaks down how he approached interrogating during his time with the FBI. Joe sets the record straight; there is no simple way to tell if a human being is lying. When looking for deceit, Joe focuses on the subject’s discomfort. He also does is best to make sure the subject feels comfortable enough to open up…a far cry from the images we see in many police procedurals.

  1. Thank God. Finally. Finally a person with authority explains all the B’s that is passed off as “deception.” People put way, way too much faith into that psuedoscience

  2. Now do one about the FBI and their ridiculous hair forensic lab. Countless people have been imprisoned with that psuedoscience. There’s nothing you can do with hair unless it’s got the root ball with DNA. Nothing. … Same with so called forensic fire science. And even fingerprints. The FBI is far more respectable than other agencies within our government, but they are not beyond reproach either

  3. There’s a reason for FBI agents having actual COLLEGE DEGREES, all law enforcement should. I just have more faith in the truth bearing out when those involved are thinking more scientifically. When we establish almost any other fact, we rely on science. Why not law enforcement?

  4. Well human bias information is quite a blindfold & it’s quite a matter of interpretation.

  5. You don’t have to speak to any law enforcement, but you do have to identify yourself. If you don’t want to talk, just say “no” when they ask you if you’d be willing to. If you aren’t arrested they can’t detain you. You don’t have to go to a police station to answer questions. If you are arrested, immediately tell them you want an attorney and refuse to answer any questions. Then you don’t have to worry about their techniques.

  6. This started off interesting but then it devolved into “blacks falsely accused by police” social justice nonsense.

  7. I hate to be that guy, but sitting near the door is actually much less comfortable than sitting in the corner. That’s why when you arrive at an empty restaurant you sit anywhere EXCEPT near the door.
