Every Trick a Pro GeoGuessr Player Uses to Win (ft. RAINBOLT) | WIRED

If you haven’t heard of it, GeoGuessr is basically competitive Google Maps. Participants try to guess where they are on the planet with just a single, random Google Street View photo. Pro GeoGuessr player, Trevor Rainbolt, is one of the best in the world, and can guess locations in approximately .1 seconds. Trevor explains how he does what he does, and how you can learn as well.

I saw the us championship last week by coincidence and was surprised this already has championships.and i immediately thought,how on gods earth is it possible on what they do,and this video helped me better understand what kind of knowledge they are using for their sport.its fascinating to say the least.

  2. I think the intuitive “it just feels like…” thing is important. It’s almost pre-cognitive, the rest gets fleshed out after. I get this a bit but I imagine he’s played so much the intuitive feeling must be so strong. It’s making a decision and then retrospectively justifying that decision with words.

  3. I’m surprised that amateur guessers don’t look at the *road name,* but then I’m more aware of linguistic patterns than the average person
