Entomologist Dr. Jessica Ware joins WIRED to answer the internet’s burning questions about the world of insects. Are cockroaches so resilient that they’d survive a nuclear war? 1. I have stick bugs as pets, SO NOW I FINALLY HAVE A PLACE TO GET MY QUESTIONS AWNSERED! my stick bugs sway sometimes, is that fear? out of stress, will they eat eachother? can they sense that you are in fear? are they overwelmed by the smell of perfume? oh and just cause i want to say it, i m training my stick bugs to be held and not freak out or run away, ive had stick bugs since i was like 11 years old, 19 now

  2. oh to have the steady calm of an entomologist. the minute that whip bug scuttled i woulda hurled that hunk of wood at the cameramen, sorry boys here ya go that’s for you

  3. I beg to differ about the mosquitoes preferring some blood thing. Anecdotally, I am *very* sensitive to mosquito bites. When I get bitten, it gets big and red and doesn’t go away for at least a week, often longer. So it’s hard to miss if I get a bite. If I walk around outside on a muggy day alone, I easily get bitten. BUT, any time my husband is with me, I am completely unscathed regardless of whether or not I use bug spray, whereas he gets bitten a lot. So it would only make sense that there is something about his blood that is more attractive to them than mine. I call him my personal mosquito repellent haha because it always works without fail.

  4. Insects are fascinating and DrJessica was a great choice for this. People, please don’t kill bugs, unless you really have to (ok, maybe mosquitos and house flies).
