Professor Willett Kempton joins WIRED to answer the internet’s most interesting questions about electric cars. Has Elon Musk’s high profile public persona affected Tesla sales? Will electric cars ever charge as quickly as pumping gas for a traditional combustion engine? Why can’t Americans by Chinese EVs? Answers to these questions and more await on Electric Car Support.

Electric cars outselling gas cars? What a joke. What a “professor”
A car that runs on hydrogen can fully be compared to a gasoline car, for the user. With only vaporized water coming out of the exhaust pipe. Hydrogen is the final solution for humanity!
I think hybrid is a good middle ground between gas and electric….best of both worlds…don’t cram it down people’s throats one way or another
correction Tesla had their best sales quarter ever this last quarter. now maybe they would have done even better without Elon in politics but to say their sales are down is incorrect.
Will cars ever be as loyal as horses?
That white background is killing my eyes.
Great EV summary addressing most of the anti ev troll claims
A society where citizens don’t have 15-20 minutes of free time to charge a personal vehicle used for 300-400 kms is a badly designed society.
2:00 ; Yes, there is mining the battery, etc, but you need to mine the same materials for a gas car, even battery (small amount tho) … you have to make the gas car too (surprise!)
Guy: i’m a professor, i know things!
Same guy, in a second question: gas-powered cars have high torque only on highest rpm!
Me: Well, i guess his other answers have the same level of accuracy…
The thing that really bothers me is people that represent themselves as experts in a field that have a lack of understanding of manufacturing and make generalizations about electric vehicles and their pollution status in our environment
Number one
internal combustion car uses way more energy to produce than an electric vehicle by many factors number one just to make an engine block they’re either going to mine aluminum or they’re gonna mine iron in that is just as environmentally destructive as mining lithium
number two
Can you say Exxon Valdez or can you say deep water horizon? Just these two environmental disasters have created more damage to our environment than the entire manufacturing Effort of electric vehicles in total. So to make a supposition that electric vehicles are more polluting when they go roll off the line than a gas vehicle is total and absolute misrepresentation of the facts and let’s not forget all the oil pipeline disasters we’ve had in Texas and in Alaska in worldwide events, don’t even compare to the damage that the fossil fuel industry has caused the environment if you’re gonna make these kinds of suppositions and not include that
you’re a fool. This is the problem with well educated people who think they’re an expert they think they know enough to think they’re right, but don’t know enough to know they’re wrong. And the reason for this is they focus on one or two subjects, and they do not have the wisdom or experience to be able to understand other subjects that they need to quantify before they can make a statement that is realistic.
Why would anyone believe Toyota when they talk about BEVs? The BZ series is an embarrassment! Toyota is a dinosaur.
Nothing about that planned obscene or how all of these cars will be in a landfill in 15 years? iPad cars are no good
Not much of an expert if he discounts the fact that electricity is largely produced by burning carbon and then shipped hundreds of miles. And those tires that only last 10,000 miles.
How many power plants, substations, transmission lines, etc would be required to charge even 5% of US cars at 1MW?
Disassemble used EV batteries? Not even Lloyd’s of London will insure that at scale.
Climate change. Don’t believe the hype bitches 🙌
I got a cold just watching this. Had to take my Zyrtec!
FYI. Evs do require an oil change for their gear/drive units. Its every few years.
Whenever I read or hear the phrase “carbon footprint” I know the speaker is not a serious person.
