The Sennheiser Orpheus originally debuted back in 1991. It was designed and sold as a complete system: a table-top stereo tube amplifier, the power supply, an internal DAC, all the cabling, and of course the headphones themselves.

I’ve heard the SR-009 and I honestly don’t understand all the hype around it. STAX has made better headphones overall in my humble opinion. Not heard Orpheus though, but I don’t think it lives up to the hype as I don’t like the HD 800 (and it’s supposedly inspired sonic wise by the Orpheus).
You’ve probably didn’t hear it with some appropriate amp, people say the Woo audio Wes is the best for it, I think.
I get it sometimes, I don’t understand why are some people saying, ‘yeah I heard them… with SOME amplifier, some dac…’ In this price category, you have to hear it through the best, otherwise don’t make conclusions.
As you have no personal experience in the matter, who are you to judge?
If you KNEW what you were talking about you would know that Hi-Fi is a lot of BS, biases and other stuff. The differences really aren’t great once the gear starts to get really good. A $5000 amp doesn’t even have to be better than a $500 amp. I heard the SR-009 with one of STAX’s own amps, but heavily modified with improved components.
like… wow, u dont know what ur saying, i owned like 5 pairs of these “orpheus” headphones they suked, beats are like 2.71845 times btter. (im kidding)(also i have a pair of hd 428’s that sound amazing) 🙂 no hard feeling 🙂
