Thank you for reviewing 🤘
I have an older VOXAC15H1X, beige Tolex.
Great Amp 😎👍
My prior version, the ac15 hw1, the previous owner had all the caps swapped to f&t, and thankfully the tech that did it was exceedingly good. Happy that I had a surprise upgrade when I popped the hood, the shop didn’t know. Also came with vintage mullard tubes!
I still can’t fathom why Vox doesn’t do an AC30 lunchbox similar to the Marshall Studio series. I think they would sell like Hotcakes…even if they don’t build them in NZ…😂
I got a used ac15 handwired (the white one) two years ago and I really like it. However when the new ones finally came out I was thinking about getting one- because of the effect loop.. and because they just look so great… thx for showing us that the effect loop is not really a reason to buy this…and thx for admitting that still- they look really sexy.. I will keep my old one for a Little longer, I guess.. greetings from Bavaria and a good new year to everyone!
I have to agree that this Vox amp sounds better but I wasn’t to keen on the reverb and that speaker plug placement is just daft. Ready to see in the bells here in Scotland the home of Hogmany. I will salute you and all my friends some now past at midnight with a proper single malt from an antique silver quaich “Slainte”
i have the old fawn one,and i like it…if this one was about 500 bucks cheaper i would get it..or at least 250 dollars cheaper…oh well,maybe in 10 years…
I’m convinced that companies know they can use the words “vintage” and “reissue” on any product whatsoever and thus slap any price on it whatsoever and they know that people will buy it not knowing any better. I would almost bet money that the powers that be at Vox absolutely despise channels like these that show how they are very much NOT the exact replicas these companies want consumers to believe they are.
Hang in there Lyle, hope you feel better soon. Happy New year to you and your family.
Hello from the Bootheel, I have a Avalon U5 direct box/preamp. It needs gone threw because I want to get rid of it, is this something you would look at? As always, great video Lyle!
Never buy the first batch of new releases. Never seems to fail.
I’m an Accountant (retired) so no one needs to explain cost to me. I’m also, after working in the aircraft industry my entire career, fully aware of the need to keep Engineers on a short leash, else you’ll end up with scope creep beyond your wildest imagination. Not kidding, if you don’t tether these guys with strict cost controls, they’ll submit a design of a bread tie made of titanium. That said, I’ll never understand why companies insist on going cheap on things that wouldn’t add $0.75 to the overall cost and why engineers, who are generally pretty smart cookies, have the propensity to come up with some of the dumbest designs (like the speaker jack on this amp).
lnd 150 is one of the depleted mode mosfet that works at the low current of a 12ax7 . Have used it as a constant current setup. Rather informative video .
I love your videos. I play guitar but I don’t know a lot about amps. This vox series is very educational since I love the jangle of vox amps. I would like one some day, but I think I would go for the real thing other than a reissue. Or maybe you have suggestion in the right direction. Take care, I was sick in October and it really sucked so hang in there.
Happy New Year 🥳 🎉 🪅 🎊 🍺 🍻
Oh Lyle, why’d you throw us drummers under the bus? That cut’s deep…
I used to play drums too. 😉
$2000 for this? For $500 more, you can get a Dr Z Z-Wreck which is pretty close to an AC15, and you get outstanding build quality.
Stunningly in depth and highly informative look into these amps (as always) and even when not feeling well.
Thanks Lyle. The channel, the knowledge you share, and you yourself are all truly gems !!!!! Be well soon !!!!!
I don’t particulary like the Cut control on my Voxes, I don’t find it very useful and I tend to avoid it. I prefer to decrease the treble knob in the TB channel.
Merry new year! I know you poo poo the non hand wired AC10 even more but honestly, it’s my first ever Vox and I think it sounds fantastic. If it dies, I’ll just get another. Cheers all!
To be honest, a very clean and tight wiring can be a bad thing with vibrations, there’s no room to wiggle and this can stress the solder joints.
