Batman: The Movie (1966) – Bat Charges!

Another scene from Batman: The Movie (1966) where Batman and Robin (Adam West & Burt Ward) head out to sea in their Batboat to rescue the dehydrated United Nations Security Council from the villains The Joker, Penguin, Ridder and Catwoman (Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, Frank Gorshin & Lee Meriwether). There Robin uses the Batboat’s special sonic charge weapon the ‘Bat Charges’ to disable The Penguin’s submarine.

  1. Batman won’t let robin drive the bat-mobile because he doesn’t have a license and is only 15 but he’ll let him explode ppl and drive a helicopter occasionally. Smart.

  2. They would have been blown away right away and they all survived? Where’s the fireball?

  3. Love both the late great Caesar Romero and Frank Gorshin! They played a damn good role as both the Clown Prince of Crime and the Crime Prince of Puzzles my favorite Batman’s Rogues!

  4. When I was 6 year old, in 1966, My Dad took the family to the New York National boat show at the NY Collosseum at Columbus Circle and the Bat Boat was on display.
Every kid , including me , lined up just to get a glimpse of it.

Later on in life , I discovered it was just a 17 ft factory made Glasstron with all kinds of fake gadgets and modifications made.
But for that one February night in 1966 I believed it was Batmans boat.

  5. Good Old Cesar Romero, a Pro to The Last, I love how he starts jumping up and down when he starts shrieking “Surface! Surface!”. I swear he had no idea the pyrotechnics were gonna ignite that close to him, but he never broke character. Villainy is a dire place when The Joker is only sensible person in the room.

  6. This is such a cool scene. I love the way they all start going crazy every time the submarine gets shot, and they the huge fight begins with Batman and Robin on the boat.

Also, did anyone else notice the Penguin’s hat fell off at 1:02?

  7. When I was still in high school. I had a really good and kind hearted friend that loved batman. And one day I think on a Friday afternoon we where getting ready to go home and call it a week. We where both talking and I asked him what was his least favorite batman film was. And he said that this one (the 1966 film) was. And I wasn’t the one to judge. I liked the 1966 film a lot for what it is. And apparently he told me that He was more into the more modern movies witch I could understand. I do agree that The modern films are fantastic. But I think that the reason why he probably doesn’t like it as much as the modern films is because it’s probably way before his time. But I have told him that it is still batman. lol

  8. Remember in the movie when he happened to have sardines or something in the utility belt to bait the dolphin in that took the torpedo? lol good times!

  9. 0:17 – I love how Riddler doesn’t react and just keeps looking away like “We’re so screwed…”

  10. Good that Batman & Robin made the 4 super-villains & their crew squirm when the bat charges were fired at their submarine to bring them to the surface & save the hostages.
