  2. I like the idea of NOT having to remove the video keypad to charge the battery. However, since the adapter does NOT use the battery, the video explains it will not work during a power outage. I had to return mine.

    1. Hi there and thanks for your comment. While this is True you can get a small inexpensive battery backup and it will stay running.

    1. No just the keypad wouldn’t work. The keypad is not directly wired to your Garage door opener. It will still function the same as before you put the keypad on.

    1. When I was referring to the opener I’m referring to the actual mechanical opener plugged in on the ceiling that opens the garage. You’d have to have your house on a backup power source for that to work.

    1. Hello and thanks for watching. That is correct, however the camera will still work so you can monitor the status of the house. All of my internet and network equipment is on battery backup and I can get a good hour of internet even when the power is out.

  3. Automotive electrical connectors on pin 1 & 5, usb 5v charger & cable, drill a hole through back cover. Way cheaper than what they charge for that adapter. Did that 2 years ago and works like a charm.

    1. @bobp4779 Hi there, I didn’t do any modification. I just ordered the myQ wired power adapter here – https://geni.us/myqwiredpower and installed it using the included instructions. It’s basically just a dummy battery with connectors on the back that replaces the original battery and door. It’s super easy.

    2. @GadgetGuysSmartHome Thanks for the video. It was very helpful.
I thought I was replying to @chill_as_fk, who accomplished the same thing as the MyQ power adapter by simply purchasing a 5V USB charger & cable, and a couple of automotive connectors. I was just wondering if he kept the battery inside the compartment while it was also wired to the 5V charger, or if the battery must be removed. And what type of automotive connectors he used to connect the power cable to Pins 1 and 5 inside the main unit.

  4. This was a bootleg job, it was done trashy, a small hole should have been drilled big enough to put the wire thru on the other side as I’ve done mines to where its a clean job and no wired shown at all! You got a “F” for failure at installing just a freakin battery and wire! smdh! 😂

    1. Haha, well thank you for your opinion on my bootleg install. I chose to do that because I wasn’t sure if I was going to leave the device in that particular location so why create a hole then have to create another. In addition I wanted to show those who maybe live in a rented house or an apartment with a garage that this can still be installed without doing any “drilling” into the frame where a landlord wouldn’t want them to. But thank you anyway for your comment and critique.

  5. You know, it really doesn’t cause a problem when your power goes out. Remember, the lift motor for your garage needs power to operate too.

    1. Hi there and thanks for watching. Yes, I was thinking more about the camera function as that will still be able to record.

    1. Hi there and thanks for commenting. Yes, my point is that you can still have video monitoring to be sure your garage is secure and if your house has a whole home backup power source you might still be able to use the garage. Something like a Tesla Wall or an Anker system.

  6. I’m just a little pissed at Chamberlain. I feel like they are trying to nickel and dime us to death. This power adapter should have come in the original package, but instead they charge you the same price as the brand new camera/keypad. What a lame company and they really show us what they think about us. At the very most this adapter should be $15.

    1. HI there, yeah originally they did not have a wired solution it was only via battery but so many people were having battery issues and really ticked off they didn’t have the ability to wire the power they created it. I would hope that now that they have it out that you could buy the camera with the wired solution. But I don’t know I haven’t looked at him since I bought mine

  7. I have one of these and it doesn’t detect motion unless you are within about ten feet. Is that how it is supposed to be? Sensitivity is set to the max and detection zone is set properly.

    1. Hi there and thanks for your comment. Honestly I have never paid much attention to exactly how far but I do believe it’s a little further than that. But probably not much. It’s isn’t really intended to be something for distance. I believe the intent is to capture people coming up to the garage door. I hve other cameras that definitely pickup further.

    1. Yes I’m aware of that. It’s more for still being able to monitor the house. All of my network is on backup power so I keep Internet for over an hour if the power stays out that long.

And for those who might have whole home battery backup it will work. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  8. Appreciate the benefit of the camera, however, the exposed wire makes it appear a bit messy.
    Nice video though.

    1. Lol, yeah, it’s one of those things where I said “I’ll fix it later and later never came. I’m sure at some point I’ll drill a hole behind it and run them through. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!

  9. What a huge improvement the batteries are a pain to use especially during the winter. Thank you so much for making this video I placed my order for this improvement keep the vids coming

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement! Means a lot and I agree with you 💯! I have enjoyed using it so much more since I installed it! I know you’ll enjoy it as well! Thanks again!
