Fallout TV series will impact the next game, says Todd Howard | BBC News

The second season of Fallout – Prime Video’s mega-hit based on the popular video game series – has landed.

Set in a post-apocalyptic future where Earth has been ravaged by nuclear war, the first series was a hit, impressing long-time fans and viewers who’d never played before.

Its surprising success had a huge impact on Bethesda Softworks, the developer of its source material, bringing back lapsed players and creating new ones along the way.

Todd Howard, director of developer Bethesda Game Studios, spoke to BBC Newsbeat about working with the show’s producers, and what the success of the programme means for the future of the games.

  1. *Plot twist, at E3 2030 Todd introduced Elder Scrolls 6 as an expansion DLC for Fallout 4 and will integrate some content from ES6 into Fallout 76. Todd still wins in the end either way.*

  2. It’s gonna SUCK. Hey who am I to downgrade those who love falling into money pit schemes they have going on.

  3. Todd’s mind is blown by what real writers can do—because his in-house writer Emil is creatively bankrupt and actively killing Todd’s & Fallout’s legacy. Chris Avellone is the Fallout standard; Chris wrote for New Vegas. Emil once said, “Players don’t care about storytelling—they skip it.” refusing to admit the truth: they skip it because it’s bad. Emil is a cope and con artist. Fallout is beloved because of its lore and storytelling. It’s not because of its setting or because it’s a looter shooter. It’s the story telling the characters. New Vegas the game and the show prove that. Emil hasn’t produced anything worth a damn and it hurts Todd reputation.

  4. So what can we expect? Even bigger procedurally generated map, formulaic crafting and item names, radiant quests that don’t mean anything, level scaling, an illusion of choice where multiple dialog entries lead to the same outcome.

  5. I’m done with Bethesda. Microsoft ruined it. They never fix their bugs, there are bugs that still exist in most (if not all) of their games that they will never fix. Todd Howard has been trying to revive a dead horse since fallout 76. So many better games made by other companies that are not tainted by corporate greed.

  6. TODD, I SWEAR TO GOD, IF YOU DON’T RELEASE IT ALREADY, I’M LITERALLY GONNA MAKE THE U.S. ACTUALLY INVADE VENEZUELA AND MEXICO NOW
