All the Ways Ice Baths Affect the Body | WIRED

Everyone seems to be cold plunging, or at the very least, watching other people do it. We had cold plunger Josh Cameron film the ice bath process while metabolic scientist Dr. Susanna Søberg explains what is going on in his body. Dr. Søberg breaks down how the body is reacting to the cold plunge, and reveals what kind of health benefits we see while in, and out, of the water.

Dr. Susanna Søberg is the Founder and CEO at http://www.soeberginstitute.com an online health institute. She is a PhD in metabolism and specializes in functional breathing, cold and heat exposure for health optimization.
In her online school, she teaches how to “stress up to stress down” using natural stressors. Her scientific discoveries have shown the minimum threshold for how much cold and heat we need to reap the health benefits. She is an international author of “Winter Swimming” – a number one bestseller on Amazon in Swimming. Her book has been translated into 13 languages so far.

  1. The best natural high after cold plunge is holding a deep breath in the steam room for 5 seconds and doing box breathing. You could pass out be careful. Don’t recommend as a good health advice but you’ll feel it.

  2. I stay in the water for 15 minutes and then go for a walk around the block to bring my core temperature back up.

  3. This woman is absolutely beautiful and I love the benefits of my ice bath tub. Thank you for all the great info

  4. I just signed up at the gym with both i e bath and Sauna ! I want to do both ! Any recommendations on how to best use them ? Thank you in advance

  5. There is NO scientific evidence for benefits. And no I’m not biased. I’ve been taking cold showers for 5 weeks now. I wish there was science behind it. I do feel fine about it. It’s not nice per se but it also isn’t too bad. There’s a short good feeling right after the cold shower.

Maybe people who are happy are more willing to try a new challenge like this? etc etc.

  6. The palms of your hands and the soles of your feet are where you lose the most heat. So just dunking them could be beneficial

  7. Does it make you feel high? Or is it just the fact that were crazy for doing this?

    Friendly atmosphere?
Or yea John yer nucking futz too?
