An alternate power source for installation of the new 2021 release of the Ring Video Doorbell Wired. I ran into an issue where I couldn’t use my standard doorbell wiring and used a C-Wire Transformer Adapter. A quick, easy, cost effective solution.
Installation of the $60, 2021 Ring Doorbell was very easy. The Ring App configuration was virtually automatic and Alexa integration was seamless. Ring has an excellent installation video; and, if needed, YouTube has many videos on different types of installation. I just wanted to share how I solved my dilemma in case anybody runs into the same issue.

I have the bare wire in front, no doorbell attached in over 23 years. No chime inside the house. The wires have current. My issue is what is correct attatchment to buy for the inside to act as chime (for wire bypassing) or is it certain transformer? .Or do I wire through the wall?
Hi William, if you have current you should be able to just follow the typical procedures for installing the Ring Doorbell Wired. You would use the doorbell wires to power the doorbell. As for a chime, you have a couple of choices. One is purchase the Ring Chime that plugs into an outlet, the other is to use an Echo Series Voice Assistant like the Echo Dot, Echo Show, etc. Let me know if you need more detailed information. I hope this helps, stay safe, and God bless!
@PapaStroh Wow! I think you answered my question perfectly. I bought a Echo Show with the Wired Ring. We were only going to use the app in our phones and the Echo for a doorbell. Good to know I can add the Ring Chime as a plug-in in house. Thank You.
@williamdlatorres4790 You’re welcome. Also what’s pretty cool is that the video will actually show on your Echo Show when the doorbell is rung, and/or when motion is detected, or on command, “Alexa, show doorbell…” Some pretty cool stuff.
hey there I just came across your vid its amazing > so basically I just need they adapter and my camera then I am good
Hi JustTelly, sorry I’m just getting back to you. Ring now has a 2nd Generation plug in adapter that covers a lot of their doorbells. Please see this link: https://ring.com/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2
Yeah very tough to explain and set up hook 2 wires plug in wow how stressful
Came for the chime jumper info. Thanks
This is great. Any idea if this will work in a ring 4 doorbell?
Hi Harrison, sorry I’m just getting back to you. Ring now has a plug in adapter that lists your doorbell. Here’s the link: https://ring.com/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2
@PapaStroh thanks. It works great!
Will this work for the Ring Pro2?
Hi Victoria, Ring has an transformer adapter, although they call it 2nd Gen Plug In Adapter that lists Ring Pro2. Hope this helps, here’s the link: https://ring.com/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2
@PapaStroh it does, thank you.
I video doorbell 2nd generation. it says :
1.Runs on a built-in, rechargeable battery.
2.Can be hardwired to an existing doorbell system or transformer for continuous charging (8-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz)
3.No garden-lighting transformers; no DC transformer/power supply 4.( this confusing part), can i purchase 24v transformer and plug to this door bell , same in your video
There is now a Plug In Adapter from Ring that lists your 2nd Gen DB. Hope this helps, here’s the link: https://ring.com/products/video-doorbell-plugin-adapter-gen-2
The background music is too loud. Poor video quality.

A real American Hero, never is wasted until it doesn’t work.
You didn’t need a resistor?
Good video! 👍🏼
SHUT DOWN BACK GROUND MUSIC
Very happy with Ring as a company.
What a lifesaver! Thank you!
So helpful i was about to tap into existing line and run one myself until i saw this. Thanks
I just bought a house from the early 2000s and they didnt have a traditional doorbell wired in, they had one of those old intercom systems, so ive been struggling to figure out a way to make my Ring doorbell work. This wire is a perfect idea, there happens to be an outlet directly behind the wall that i can drill too!!! Thanks for quick and easy video
Nice video, right to the point, much appreciated.
your music is louder than your voice.
