Earth’s Deadliest Volcanoes | Spain: La Palma | Free Documentary
World’s Toughest Lives – Stories from the Hidden Worlds: https://youtu.be/7up6T4FLmzc
It was the volcanic event that gripped the world. An inconspicuous hill on the Spanish Island of La Palma bursts open, releasing an avalanche of lava. In its path are the homes of seven thousand residents and the emergency services rush to evacuate before there are any casualties. Within twenty-four hours, volcano expert Chris Horsley is on the scene. Chris’s day job typically involves retrieving molten lava samples and installing state-of-the-art monitoring systems inside volcanos, but here, with a fountain of lava blasting 400 meters into the air and annihilating everything in its fall zone, it’s far too dangerous.
Instead, Chris and his team embark on a journey to document the eruption. They discover how this volcano was formed and track the devastating havoc the unstoppable lava wreaks as it hits roads, villages, and towns. Chris also meets the victims of this eruption: the residents with homes in the line of fire. One man watches on helplessly as his house, along with all of his possessions, goes up in flames. Thousands of people have similar stories and the stricken community club together like never before. But the lava flow will soon change track and the team are evacuated from their own accommodation. The team will be sleeping rough in the volcanic mountains, high above the unfolding humanitarian disaster, as the lava careers towards the sea.
